Class Procedure |
Entering the Training Hall
Bow to the National, Federation or Association flag if displayed. Students should bow to the instructor if he/she is present in the training hall.
Commencing Training
The senior student should line the class up with spacing that is appropriate for practical exercise. The class lines up with the most senior students in descending grade from the front to the rear. Upon entry into the training hall of the instructor, the senior student will call the class to attention. If the instructor is already present in the dojang then the senior student will wait for the instructor to front the class before calling the class to attention.
Prior to dismissal
Students line up in front of the instructor, the most senior student on the front right hand side facing the instructor. The senior student calls the class to attention and all bow to the flag (if displayed), and then the instructor. At this stage the instructor has now finished with the class and may leave the dojang. The senior student turns to face the class, the next senior following will call the class to bow to the senior student or students.
Leaving the training hall
As students leave the training hall, before exiting the door, they should turn and face the instructor, (it does not matter if he/she is not looking at them) bow to the instructor and exit the hall.
Class Structure |
ILT classes are segregated by grade. There are 4 groupings:
Tots TaeKwon-Do (5-8 year olds)
Beginners (white belt to yellow belt)
Intermediates (green tags to blue tags)
Advanced (blue belts and above)
Our classes (except Tots TaeKwon-Do) are for all age groups. We tend to partner adults with adults, juniors with juniors although; on occasion we enable the junior students to practice their skills against a larger opponent. This helps better prepare the students for real life. This class structure also enables parents and children to share an activity by providing the opportunity to train at the same time.
The primary aim of ILT is to provide a safe, enjoyable training environment. Our instructors are CRB checked, hold a valid 1st aid certificate and have public liability insurance. They attend regular courses to keep their knowledge up-to-date.
The classes do not follow a rigid format but all start with a warm-up. The rest of the training session may include some of the following elements;
Stretching
Fundamental movements
Sparring
Stamina training
Self defence
Awareness training
Patterns
Pad work
The class concludes with a cool down.
Behind the classes is a structured programme where students will learn set techniques and associated theory. Periodically we host gradings where the individual can be assessed for their next belt; a visual representation of their development. For the younger students, we offer merit pages for demonstrating particular skills.
